‘The thing behind Baiyun was so huge, so fast, that a gale force wind followed its every movement.
‘The air struck him like a physical blow and Baiyun staggered in the sky. He spiraled, tumbled, and barely regained his balance in time to dodge a streak of red lightning that would have taken his head.
‘Baiyun ran desperately.
‘But there was no escaping the Shadow Queen.
“Return to me what is mine.”
‘Movement. To his right. Baiyun dodged too late.
‘A massive claw descended from above. It swatted him down and Baiyun felt all the air in him explode out of his mouth as the blow sent him plummeting. Still, the claw chased. It grabbed him even as he tried to recover, and in its palm, Baiyun felt the claw squeeze.
He cried out in pain, his body creaking.
‘The hand pulled him up, up to the Shadow Queen’s face, where he could look into her baleful red eyes.
‘“The Orb of Notus. Return it.”
‘“T-That’s what I’m doing,” Baiyun said, his voice shaking. “I’m putting it back to where it’s supposed to be. Away from you. Away from me.”
‘“I am its rightful owner.”
‘“It belongs to no one!”’
