“Ventus and changed it — altered it in a way that had never been seen before.
“It was a new energy, deep and vast and cold. It was the essence of Inanis, the Prime Elemental Realm of Shadow.
“Soft, dark smoke rose over her fur. It shrouded her in silence. It was a mixture of wind and shadow, softer than smoke and quieter than steam. It defined her now. What she was.
A unique existence.
“Those of her homeland scorned her. They called her tainted. But Kaali didn’t feel ruined. She felt… new. Like the world suddenly had colors she couldn’t see before. The dissonance between what she felt and how others saw her had been a bane to her emotionally. It had made her new powers, which she was still learning how to control, unstable.
“So Kaali left her home. She’d gone into exile to think. To learn. To understand what she now was.
“And now she was here.”
